May. 25th, 2011 12:08 pmThe kids must be beginning to trust me and respect me. It's test time again, so the students aren't allowed past the doorway. Today a boy came in to ask if one of us teachers could put something on another teacher's desk for him. When I glanced up, he was looking right at ME. Usually they tune me out and dismiss me, but for whatever reason he thought I was his best bet. Cool.
Also this morning I overheard some kids talking on the other side of the door. I'd heard my name, so I figured they were looking at the seatin chart and trying to figure out where another teacher was in relation to my desk. That makes perfect sense, I'm a pretty good landmark - I'm almost always there and I stand out. Also, beyond my foreign-ness, it's true that they really don't know a lot of the other teachers. They all know me. I've taught them all and they don't forget it when I come into their classrooms. The fact that I'm so well-known that they can use me as a foundation makes me feel pretty good.
