Wow, it feels like just yesterday when I was thinking, "Gosh, it's almost March." That explains why just now when I went to write "May 17th," it first came out as "March 17th." Where did the time go?

Last night there was a bit of rain and two flashes of lightening followed by two rolls of thunder. I stood in my kitchen watching the rain-blurred lights outside, waiting for more. I couldn't help but feel like I'd been teased. Thunderstorms - something I'm looking forward to having again when I get home. I like them a lot, but Hokkaido doesn't have more than a single rumble or two all year, let alone a proper storm.

Rain in general, with or without storms, is so much more fun back home. Home, where I have a car. Here I show up to work soaked every time it rains and there's not a thing I can do about it. Home, where I live in a city that actually dries out. A warm rain in Wisconsin is something to dance in, because it bring balance to the dryness that came before and is usually followed by a little sunshine. You're left feeling refreshed. In the City by the Sea, on the other hand, rain means the disgusting sinking feeling in your stomach telling you it's going to get even wetter. It's humid and damp all the time to begin with, so rain only makes it more impossible to dry your laundry.

Speaking of which, another thing I look forward to about home is having a clothes drier. It's almost time to shut off my heater for the summer and the rainy season should start any day now. This means my laundry will only dry after more than 24 hours of contact with my dehumidifier.

Ah well, just 11 weeks to stick it out. I'll survive until I'm reuinted with the metal GE god that lives in my basement.
