Gearing up for my party tonight cleaning has been on my mind. Like kismet, I managed to summon the energy to clean a few days in advance, knocked it out of the park, and now for THE FIRST TIME since I've lived here, I'm actually left with enough time to finish cleaning my house COMPLETELY before my guests arrive. Seriously, first time. I'm not sure how this happened but it's wonderful. Well, actually I think I do know how this happened, and it took my best friend writin about cleaning in her blog to help me figure it out.

My story: I am my strongest critic. I judge myself for my messy house, and I don't like mess to begin with, and yet I still don't clean. After she said she was going to set the goal of cleaning a small chunk of her apartment every day, even if it's just the top of a coffee table, I decided it sounded do-able and I was gonna try and clean a little every night too...but easy as it seemed her and I both failed.

Last month, as a last ditch attempt to remedy this problem, I moved my bi-weekly english groups to my house. This means I HAVE to clean twice a week (or at least push shit in a dark corner) or risk embarassment. And as much as I hate myself for creating this kind of pressure, and I hate my students when they arrive early and I'm still cleaning, and I've come to even hate my students just for the fact that I have to clean for them at all...I still think it was a good idea. I don't clean unless someone is coming over in 3 hours or less, I just don't. So making this a frequently mandatory thing is stressful sometimes, but it's the only way I know to get it done.

Fortunately, it also means I can have other guests over sometimes if they show up close enough to when I've cleaned for English group, whereas before this I never could have anybody over because the house was messy. It also means that on days when the convo groups are back to back, I don't have to clean before the second group because it's still clean from before!

It also meant that cleaning for my party in a matter of days was entirely do-able, because I hadn't had enough time to completely tear the apartment apart since Wednesday's English group! This arrangement is a total win.
